The 2017 McDonald’s U/14 schools league registration is underway and open to all schools in South Africa. Now in its 8th year, the league promises nothing but exciting things for schools and players.
The registration process began in January 2017 and many schools across the country have been responding to be part of this prestigious 2010 World Cup legacy programme of McDonald’s SA.
Clapham High School in Pretoria are the 2016 defending champions. After being knocked out in 2014 at Cluster Circuit, they were eliminated at the Regional Phase of the province in 2015. The team gathered notes from the previous knockouts and decided to aim higher to reach for the stars so that in 2016 they lift the trophy.
The tournament has in recent years produced players like Phakamani Mahlambi and Sibongakonke Mbatha who are currently representing South Africa at CAF U20 Cup.
The President of SASFA, Mandla Shoes Mazibuko, said “We are grateful to this 8 years partnership with McDonald’s SA as we celebrate our anniversary. We still developing dreams and making sure that a healthy lifestyle, a wining mentality is instilled in the minds of our young athletes who will take the development of sports into another level through School Sports and great initiative such as the McDonald’s U/14 Schools League.”
“The McDonald’s U14 Schools League has been entrenched in the concept of “DEVELOPING DREAMS” and over the years, we have been proud to witness those dreams become a reality for the young boys of this country. We are excited about the league and this year hope to reach more schools and further provide an opportunity for parents and the communities to be part of the all festivities while supporting their children. The soccer games from the regional stage to the festivals and finally to the nationals, will allow children to showcase football talent amongst their peers.
