Services: Energy, gas and fleet

We focus on the energy and commodities sector using in-house expertise honed within the oil refining, gas and coal to petro – chemicals industry, the company has made in-roads into the downstream segment of the energy production value chain.

Our initial venture has been within the biofuels sector, with a bio-refinery that will produce bio-ethanol and power and our aim is to become a fully integrated energy and commodities trading company. This includes interests throughout the energy value chain, comprised of crude oil, fuels, lubricants and power and extending to industry related commodities such steel, copper and aluminum

We have embarked into the energy sector with developing the first commercial scale bio-refinery that will convert biomass to cellulosic ethanol and power in South Africa.

The investment is being pursued in a joint venture with the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) to capture the biofuels market that has been formed in the country through the Energy Ministry’s Biofuels Mandatory Blending Gazette. The NEF has advanced seed capital to conclude feasibility.

The first plant will produce 60 million liters per annum of bio-ethanol to be blended with petroleum petrol. It will also produce 10 MW of power through heat integration within the plant. The total capital is estimated to be R 1.6 billion, and will be raised in the subsequent phases in partnership with the NEF.

The bio-refinery finds a central place in supporting the implementation of the government’s goal to promote black owned energy companies through its Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) and Biofuels Industrial Strategy. The plant also embodies state objectives for building a Green Economy, as it will produce green fuel and power, generate 1500 green jobs, and support small companies that will supply goods and services to the plant.
